RODICA will present the solo show of Rodica Popescu’s story; from her life growing up in Romania to living in America alone. At 87 years old and as a multidisciplinary artist she expresses herself, and her life, through various creative outlets such as painting, poetry, and crocheting clothing. This show presents her works and other historical Romanian artifacts Rodica has collected over the years.

It’s a shame to think that history can be lost and forgotten through the death of our elders. To eternalize her stories, this show will be comprised of three parts: one section that tells the story of the history of Rodica, another area that shows Rodica’s life in America, what she’s made, and wore over the years, and the final section immerses the viewer into being “in the presence” of our featured artist through video.

The goal is to share her stories to everyone and celebrate the life she lived with all of its lessons and experiences. RODICA should feel like you’re walking into your grandmother’s front room, sitting with her as she presents her own show & tell. For 1st generation kids, much of what is learnt is from the words of the generation above you. Listening to firsthand stories, whether or not you want to at the time, is how we understand where we come from. This show will be educational, and hopefully, it will also inspire viewers to talk to the people in their lives about how their experiences shaped who they are.
